Being a mother is a job that doesn’t come with instructions. It is one of those positions where she receives “one the spot training.” Mothers do not take days off. They are usually on the clock 24/7. Even when the children are grown and out of the house, a mother will remain employed for the rest of her life.
There are so many sacrifices a mother makes for her children-my mom in particular is a prime example. Growing up, my mom laid aside so much of herself for me and my brother. There were so many things she went without (shopping sprees, sleep, quiet time, etc.) so that we could have. Her strength was (and still is) incredible. She is someone I would describe as being what I would call an “old school” mama. She was strict, yes/no ma’am at the end of every sentence was mandatory, you had to finish everything off your plate before you could have desert, and she would embarrass you out in public before you ever embarrassed her. So many times, I did not understand why she did the things that she did, but now as an adult, I appreciate everything she did-I truly thank God for my “best girl.”
I’m sure you have stories about your mother. You may have a story that is similar or different than mine. Your biological or adopted mother may have raised you. Maybe it was your grandmother, aunt, or female cousin who raised you. Your stepmother could have raised you. Whoever she is that took on that role, make sure you thank her. Show her that you love her and tell her how much she means to you.
If your mother is no longer here on this earth, hold every memory you have of her close to your heart until you see her again. For the mothers who have lost their child(ren), you have not- and will not-lose your title as a mother. For the ones who have taken on the role of being a motherly figure, a spiritual mother, or godmother, you deserve to wear the crown today as well-you are not excluded. And for the ones who plan on becoming mothers one day, just know that at God’s appointed time, your day will surely come.
My prayer is that today is that women all over the world will enjoy this day that has been set aside for them. That today will bring them joy in knowing that they are treasured and honored for all they have done or are doing. That their role as a mother will not only be recognized on today, but everyday that follows in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
I am so proud of you, LaShana! Keep up the kingdom work!
Amen, Geniene, to God be the glory!!!
